There is no denying that the Internet is a revolutionary
tool that has a profound positive effect on the lives of everyone who uses it in productive ways.
The possibilities are endless and can't be disputed!
What CAN be disputed, however, are the extremely
harmful effects to children and vulnerable adults caused by
unwanted, and unsolicited Internet Porn. Please consider the
following:
Ø One
in five children ages 10-17 have received a sexual solicitation over the
Internet.
Ø One
in four children who use the Internet are exposed to unwanted sexual
material.
Ø 2.5
billion emails per day are pornographic.
Ø 70
percent of sexual advances over the Internet happened while youngsters were
on a home computer.
Ø 21
percent of teens say they have looked at something on the Internet that
they wouldn't want their parents to
know about.
Ø A
survey of 600 households conducted by the National Center for Missing &
Exploited Children found that 20% of parents do not know any of their children's Internet passwords, instant messaging nicknames or email addresses.
Ø The
most common ways children have accidentally reached pornographic content on
the Web are pop-up windows (55%), misrepresented links (52%), misspelled URLs (48%) and auto
links within emails (23%).
